Central Florida is the most-visited corner of the Sunshine State — home to Orlando’s theme parks, the Space Coast’s rocket launches and some of the clearest freshwater springs on Earth. A little planning goes a long way.
Getting Here and Getting Around
- Fly into MCO. Orlando International is the main gateway; Orlando Sanford (SFB) handles some carriers.
- Brightline connects Orlando International Airport with Fort Lauderdale, Boca Raton, West Palm Beach and Miami.
- SunRail is a commuter train through Orlando and nearby cities like Winter Park.
- Driving is still the easiest way to explore. I-4 links Tampa, Orlando and Daytona; expect traffic around the attractions corridor. Toll roads are common, so set up a toll pass or check your rental car’s plan.
Weather: Plan Around the Afternoon Storm
From late spring through early fall, afternoons often bring short, intense thunderstorms with lightning. Do outdoor rides and beach time in the morning, keep a poncho handy and head indoors when thunder rolls. Hurricane season runs June 1 through November 30.
Theme Park Timing
- Crowds peak around holidays, spring break and summer. Late January, early May and September tend to be quieter.
- Arrive at opening — the first hour is the best time for popular rides.
- Use each park’s official app for wait times, maps and mobile ordering.
There’s More Than Theme Parks
An hour east, the Space Coast offers rocket launches and wide beaches. North and west, crystal-clear springs stay around 72°F year-round. And historic towns like Winter Park and Mount Dora show a quieter, older Florida.
